Computer Maintenance for Beginners – how you can avoid a computer meltdown

To prevent serious problems you need to perform Computer Maintenance On a regular basis. If you already have problems they can be corrected but you need to act immediately, it could be a virus and the longer it stays on the more damage it can cause. I am going to show you the tasks that must be done daily, weekly, and monthly to run your computer smoothly. this is for the most part for daily internet user’s but anyone can learn and use this guide. consider this a computer maintenance 101

First Have a firewall setup to catch virus’s and spyware make sure it is running every time you go online. this is a big time saver there is nothing worse than visiting a website and getting a virus that destory’s your computer. This is a must to keep the virus’s and spyware and malware out.

Once a day run a virus scan to check for virus’s make sure you quarantine everything you find then clean any files that are major. If you can’t clean the file keep it in quarantine until you know it is safe to delete If have the file quarantined and are still having problems you may have to delete the virus file and re-install the affected program. If the affected program is windows you will have to re-install it or do a system recovery. Just make sure you get all important items off your computer you will lose them once you start a system recovery

Next run a spyware/adware/malware program to remove to spyware this program will remove all cookies, popups, dialer’s and other problems. They are programs that install on your computer to capture your information or track which websites you visit, dial other computers, and cause popups. I have found these programs safe to delete other than virus’s. So run a scan and delete anything you find. I use spybot but you can search for spyware programs and find many.

Next delete cookies and delete history in firefox go to tools and go to clear recent history and then tools – options – privacy – then show cookies – remove all cookies. In IE go to tools – internet options – delete cookies then delete history then delete files. In Chrome go tool the wrench on the side go to options – under the hood, then clear browsing data it should clear everything.

These tasks should be completed daily to Maintain your computer. Next time we will go into weekly tasks you should perform on your computer to prevent problems. It will be focused on getting rid of errors and speeding up your computer.Your Computer Maintenance 102 is up next.

    Great information here Marcus,
I think that it right as well people need to keep a check on there computers or they will find that it will get lots of errors. I have many times downloaded different things and found that after a day or two computer starts doing different things and other things pop up etc. I then delete the things I downloaded and all goes back to as it was with no problems. So if I was to just leave it my computer would end up in a great big mess I am sure.
